Build your resilience and readiness for a volatile world
The world is increasingly VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous). No, it’s actually BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, Incomprehensible). No, there’s a disturbance in the Force. No, it’s turtles all the way down…
Whatever we call it, there’s a historic shifting away from stability. How do we meet and match this moment?
After more than 30 years of experience in helping organizations, teams, and individuals create opportunities out of uncertainty, Victoria Ward and Dr Wendy Schultz, co-founders of Jigsaw Foresight, have created THRIVE (Tools for Heightening Resilience in Volatile Environments). These are the methods Wendy and Victoria have used in Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit roundtables, policy labs, and government departments. Now, they’re yours.
THRIVE: Essentials is an online, self-paced course that teaches you how to take time and space, to think clearly, act with intention, and adapt meaningfully in uncertain times. Over three foundational modules, you will learn interdisciplinary essentials in foresight, narrative, and change that you can use to help overcome challenges from the wicked to the everyday, from the personal to the planetary.
What you’ll learn
Each module in THRIVE: Essentials teaches two methods to help you make sense of a live change challenge you are experiencing, and move through it with more clarity, creativity, and confidence.
Module 1: Future Story and Backcasting
Create a vivid, motivating picture of your preferred future and build a pathway to activate change.
Module 2: Shared History and Three Horizons
Use this dual lens to place yourself within wider contexts of change and draw lessons from the past to inform long-term decisions.

Is this for you?
This course isn’t for everyone. It’s interdisciplinary, it’s practice based, it requires you to use your imagination (gasp!). But if you are:
- Facing a strategic inflection point in your life or career
- Guiding and leading others through complex transition
- Rethinking capability-building for the future, for yourself or others
- Adapting to rapid tech shifts and changing expectations
- A purpose driven professional burned out by productivity hacks and business-as-usual change
- A change agent looking to deepen impact and imagination in ambiguous conditions
Then THRIVE is for you.
You might be a solo consultant, a middle manager, a systems thinker, or simply someone who feels caught in the current of change and wants to meet it well.
This is for the curious, the stretched, the dissatisfied. **People who want to build resilience and readiness for change without burning out.

What you’ll take away
You’ll finish each module able to apply two methods to your real-life context, not just some notes to put in a file and forget about. You’ll be able to get going and act.
You’ll join a growing community of foresight and transformation literate professionals who are operating with increased resilience in volatile environments.
FAQs
What is foresight?
Foresight comprises a wide variety of theories, frameworks, methods and processes drawn from over 50 years of conceptual development and applied practice, which are extensively documented in the peer-reviewed literature.
Foresight is not about predicting the future, nor is it freeform speculative imagination. It is a structured approach to make sense of future challenges and to inform decision-making and priority-setting, taking a long-term view to make short- and medium-term decisions. Foresight also prompts us to critically assess our current assumptions and what we take for granted in a context of evolving change.
Most simply, foresight focuses our attention on change and its impacts over time. Foresight can be thought of as a set of reflective questions that engage us in thinking critically and systemically about change and its implications – both emerging risks and emerging opportunities. It helps reduce blind spots regarding potential changes and impacts. It widens our sense of the positive potential of the future. At its most effective, it is a systematic survey of developments relevant to our roles and functions that are likely to result in the greatest health, social, and economic benefits in the future.
Social change, technological and scientific advancement and innovation of any kind are characterised by complex, dynamic interactions, serendipity and inherent unpredictability. Limits to knowledge require continuous re-evaluation of options and strategic choices. Foresight enables us to respond more rapidly and rigorously to upcoming changes that overturn our assumptions and current ways of working.
Foresight helps us to understand how much more we can ask of the future in setting our goals and imagining better futures.
